The Government of Kenya has taken it upon itself with other stakeholders to increase the production of potatoes country wide. 13 value chains (VCs) have been prioritized by the Government of Kenya with an aim of improving the incomes of small scale farmers and offer dietary diversity. Potato is one of the value chains that have been identified as having potential. This is due to the fact that potato is the second most consumed after maize. Despite this, potato is experiencing low production due to unstructured markets, inadequate supply of certified seeds, poor farming practices, post-harvest losses, just to mention a few. The Government is working on these challenges so as to increase potato production.

Potato is grown widely across the country in different conditions. It can be cultivated in two seasons majorly in April-August (long rains) and September-January (short rains). However the lengths of the seasons vary from one production area to another. Due to high demand potato is now being produced in large scale. Consequently this has brought about the need for high quality seeds, farm machinery and farm inputs. High and quality yields are likely to be realized if all this, together with good farming practices are put in place. Currently there is demand for certified seeds. This is as a result of increased awareness on the part of the potato farmers on the need to use certified seeds. site!

  22. Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything.

However think about if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this blog could definitely be one
of the most beneficial in its niche. Good blog!

My website has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it looks
like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement.

being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.

  26. I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way
of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.

Maybe you could space it out better?
